CHONBURI, Thailand – Three Chinese women were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday after police were alerted that four men of their same nationality allegedly detained them for sexual abuse and extortion at a house in Bang Lamung district. More than 20 officers were deployed to search the two-storey house at around 12.30am after police received the location from a relative of one of the victims.

Evidence found at the house in Tambon Takian Tia included drug paraphernalia, ketamine-laced vapes, condoms and a long chain believed to have been used to restrain the women, according to Pol Col Napatphong Sositsuriyamanee, superintendent of Chon Buri Immigration. The relative who contacted authorities was alerted to the plight of the women through a WeChat message, with the victim writing that she was in danger but asking the relative not to reply, and also urging that many police officers be sent.

Upon arriving at the house, some officers climbed over the fence and encountered a man sitting on a sofa before finding two women in a room on the ground floor. Three other men were apprehended on the second floor, where another woman was found in a bedroom, appearing frightened and with bruises on her body, police said. Investigators said the four suspects had no passports and were believed to have entered Thailand illegally through a natural border crossing, and obscene photographs of the victims were also found on a suspect’s phones.

The women, aged 23, 32 and 36, were confirmed as Chinese nationals by their passports. They told police that the suspects had promised them so-called entertainment jobs but instead took them to the house, where they claimed they were detained, abused and extorted. The investigation is continuing, Pol Col Napatphong said.
